Our EYFS Curriculum
Children deserve and need an education done with them not to them. Adventure, joy, magic – all can be found in the kingdom of play. Let’s go…

EYFS at Our Lady and St Edward's
Within the Early Years at Our Lady and St Edward’s we aim to support our children to be happy, curious and successful individuals. We create a welcoming, safe and caring learning environment in which every child is valued and supported to achieve their potential in all areas of school life. We strive to inspire children from the youngest age to be curious, about their learning and develop a love for learning and an enthusiasm to share this with others. Through our curriculum, learning environment, and quality adult interactions we endeavour to provide children with ambitious and high quality learning opportunities in order for them to become confident, interested and determined lifelong learners. We want our children to develop effective and respectful relationships with their peers and adults within our community and we strive to provide an extension to the care and security that comes from family life.
At the heart of our EYFS provision is play. Our day is structured to maximise opportunities for children to explore fun, engaging and magical play. We adopt a child centred approach and are guided by children’s interests and curiosities. We teach the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (2021), using the Development Matters and Birth to Five Matters. Children are offered opportunities and experiences to explore new ideas and develop their curiosity about the world around them. Children are involved in their learning and their interests are central when planning, inspiring curiosity and engagement. Our EYFS learning environment is carefully organised and planned to facilitate children’s learning through play and to support children to develop, independence, enthusiasm, curiosity and imagination within their play. Our learning environment develops as the year progresses to enable children to access new resources, explore new concepts and advance and deepen their thinking and understanding. We provide an environment which is rich in language and where high quality interactions underpin our learning.
Our high quality, language rich EYFS curriculum and environment purposefully support children’s enthusiasm and engagement with learning from the youngest age. When children leave the Early Years at Our Lady and St Edward’s they will have developed a love for learning. They will have explored their interests, begun to deepen their understanding and been inspired within their learning. This will enable them to transition to Year 1 and the expectations of the National Curriculum with enthusiasm, determination and excitement.
